Crypto Weakness and Japanese Crypto Treasuries On The Rise

📰 Weekly Overview

The final week of August saw crypto markets enter a cautious phase, with macroeconomic signals and ETF outflows dampening sentiment. Meanwhile, U.S. lawmakers accelerated efforts to finalize digital asset legislation, and Japanese firms made bold moves into crypto treasury management. Token unlocks and infrastructure upgrades continued to shape liquidity and investor behavior.

🤝 Partnerships & Strategic Moves

  • Gumi x SBI Holdings: Japanese mobile gaming firm Gumi announced a ¥17 billion ($117M) XRP treasury allocation and a joint crypto fund with SBI Holdings. This marks a significant institutional push into altcoin exposure and crypto asset management.

  • Ripple’s RLUSD Expansion: Ripple confirmed plans to launch RLUSD, a regulated enterprise-grade stablecoin, in Japan by early 2026. This aligns with the growing demand for compliant stablecoin infrastructure in Asia.

  • CLARITY Act & Anti-CBDC Bill Await Senate Vote: The CLARITY Act, which defines digital commodities and ancillary assets, is expected to pass the Senate Banking Committee by September 30. The Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, aimed at restricting Fed-issued retail CBDCs, is also queued for debate.

  • Market Structure Legislation Advances: The Senate Banking Committee is finalizing the “Responsible Financial Innovation Act of 2025,” which will clarify SEC/CFTC jurisdiction and introduce new asset categories.
